By lunch time I *only* had 3550 steps.  Our school is in STAR (Standardized Testing and Reporting) testing this week, meaning the kids are spending their mornings reading questions and bubbling while I sit there and stare at them.  It’s very exciting.

Weekend love note

It’s always fun to find love notes left for you from your students on the white board. Yesterday, one of my fav students, “A”, left me this love note.  She found the boxes of preserved specimens waiting to get dissected.  Guess who wants to take physiology next year!  “A” also played photog for me.  Good job, A!

napa

This is what I’ve been doing since yesterday:

B was on a work trip in Napa this week, so I took advantage of my spring break to crash in on him at his work event.  Lucky me, he was staying at the Carneros Inn, a suuuper nice place.  Our room was pretty insane.  There was an outdoor shower!

We left Napa today, but stopped at the Oxbow Public Market on the way home.  This place is basically just like the Ferry Building, but with Ritual Roasters instead of Blue Bottle and a Kara’s Cupcakes instead of Miette.  I bought 3 cupcakes for myself (2 for later) and B only got one.  =)  B, being 6’4″ also got stuck sitting at the kids table.

I decided to wear my pizza shirt today, since pizza goes so well with wine.  right? And, I seriously love these Forever 21 sunglasses.  They were cheap as heck ($6!!) and so darn cheeky.  I love cheeky, off beat-ish things.

spring break is almost over!  Tomorrow: snowboarding.  Quite possibly the last time this winter season.

spring break whites

I know it’s only spring break and not summer.  But if I don’t start busting out the summer clothes soon, I’m going to start feeling depressed.  There’s no school this week!!!  woot! I went browsing through Downtown SF yesterday and of course had to check out the Madewell sale section.  Surprise!  The skirt I’ve been lusting after for so long is finally on sale!  In my size!  It was my lucky day.  Still, it was super hard to fork over the plastic for an $80 skirt (the sale price even!).  I think I stood in the store for a good 15 min debating over the purchase before deciding to buy it so that I could debate over it some more at home. $80 is a lot for a skirt, no?  I’ve decided to keep it though, justifying the price by thinking about how it would be perfect for a really hot day, and it’s breathable since it’s silk.  I’ve been thinking about the skirt ever since I saw the Madewell spring lookbook, and I’m going to wear the sh*t out of this skirt come summer.  I wore it today to get a start on summer.

sunny sundays

It’s a sunny sunday, with hella cold wind whipping around.  B and I met a couple friends for brunch at Bar Tartine earlier.  We wanted to chill out at Dolores Park for a bit after, but the San Francisco weather today is prohibitively cold.  So instead, like any good little SF techie/teacher, we are both now sitting inside, staring at our laptops.  I blame my bad back. Last friday, my back decided it was time to sieze up on me, like it does at least once a year. It hurts. a lot.  And, as well as wincing in pain with every step, I was stuck at a 45 degree angle for the past two days. Today I’m more at a 80 degree angle from horizontal.  I stuck on a happy face so that B could snap some photos in front of my neighbor’s garage.

I wore this dress last time to a girl’s night out here.  Not much of a mix up this time, but the cold weather called for leggings, boots and my beat up but loved 6 year old pea coat. What’s hidden underneath it all is one of those grandpa style back braces that employees of Home Depot wear. It’s seriously un-sexy.

P.S. check out how Rachel from That’s Chic wears my same dress here. I love this dress!

change comes from within

my friday outfit for a cold foggy san francisco day.  I bought this t-shirt thinking that the kids would get it…that they have to be the change if they want social change.  sadly, they don’t get it right off the bat.  but they will…   I bought mine from the renegade craft fair this past december.  You can find the brand here.  I’m a big fan this and this (though i would never wear it at school) design also.

nem nuong love

Yesterday we ate three noodle meals.  Pho in the morning, ramen for lunch and banh canh gio (other type Viet noodle soup) for dinner.  Today, it’s a wrap day.  My uncle Richard took us out for nem nuong wraps. second to pho, these wraps are my favorite Viet dish.  plus, you end up smelling fish sauce in your hands for the rest of the day.  good thing or bad thing?

No joke, LA has the BEST Asian food ever.

Nem noung is garlic and sugar marinated barbecued pork patties.  At the table, you wrap the pork up with lettuce, rice noodles and mint.  A quick dunk in nouc nam and its ready to be devoured.  Seriously delish.

Madewell Love/Drool/Lust

I’m obsessed with Madewell.  Our San Francisco Madewell just opened this past July, but I’ve been stalking Madwell ever since their online retail debut.  It’s my favorite store.  It’s the  cooler, hipster J.Crew.

The new spring collection looks came out recently and I’m feeling giddy.  Super cute stuff…and my new dress is part of it!  Perfect teacher outfits! I die.  I lust. I drool.   I wait….for sales.I constantly have to remind myself that I am on a teacher’s budget.  Madewell sadly, is more often than not well outside of that budget.  It’s a process, but sometimes I end up with great deals.  I wait and wait for things to go on sale.  Then I wait and wait for the extra 30% off sales campaigns.  Then I go to the store to see if they have it in stock to save on  shipping.  Only then do I splurge on Madewell.  The spring dress I just bought, from look #1 above, was brand new to the store, but there was a 30% off all dresses promotion going on which brought the cost down to about $90.  There was a lot of internal money guilt back and forth, but in the end I knew I had to have it. It was just too cute to pass up. Now I will wait for Look 4 and 7 to go on sale!

sail away, it’s girls’ night!

It was girls’ night out.  All respective significant others are out of town and/or didn’t feel like hanging with the chickies.  B is in Hawaii on a work trip…. I am sooo jelly.

We went to Luna Park for a late supper and drinks.  I wore my new favorite dress from Madewell which garnered more than a few complements both from the girl friends and from rando girls whist waiting in the restroom line.  All together, this means that this dress was not only a great buy, it is now going to be a closet staple for the weekends.

Next test that could possibly raise the dress up to a weekday and weekend closet staple: how the kids respond.  Granted, for the classroom, something as short as this dress would never fly.  So some layering magic will have to happen.  FSM forbid I actually show too much skin at school.  I feel dirty just contemplating it.  *shudder*

I’m all about the nautical look.  I love it.  I’m obsessed with it.  I was a sailor, after all.  I did at one time fancy becoming a coastie (coast guard) or a merchant mariner.  I just wanted to be on the ocean forever….I ❤ sailors.

BTW, all pics by Aimee.  thanks girl!
