orange you glad?

Last night we had mushroom sausage lasagna.  Last friday, this was what I wore to work to teach a bunch of teenagers who just couldn’t wait to get out of class and start their 4 day Thanksgiving break vacation.  I’ve run out of ideas for the weekend.  Brain killed by loads of food and shopping.

summer uniform

New York is HOT.  Today it was like 100˚F out (it’s now 11pm, and it’s 83˚ outside).  I’m used to 50˚-65˚F weather every single day in SF.  This whole summer/fall/winter/spring weather thing was foreign to me, till now.  So now I have a summer uniform.  Every morning, I throw on one of two pairs of denim cut-offs, a tank, sunnies, and I’m done. Granted it’s not very exciting, but it’s functional on my bike, maximizes ventilation, and provides enough surface area for sweat evaporation without making me feel like I’m a stripper too naked.

These jeans used to belong to B till I saved them from the Goodwill pile and chopped the legs off.  There is a hole in the back pocket created from years of packing his “daily carry” knife, so I almost lost my current favorite lipbalm the other day.  I’m planning on stealing patiently waiting for B to get rid of another pair of jeans so I can stop wearing these everyday.

Today was a minimum day at school, the day before spring break.  SPRING BREAK!!  At my school, we celebrate the beginning of spring with a festival where all the clubs set up tables and sell food to fund raise.  I made like a good teacher and bought myself a snack from every table.  No complaints from my belly yet!  I should have planned accordingly though…my outfit was not very springy at all, just very neutral.  Thanks to Aimee for letting me borrow her shades!  And to my student A, who informed me today that it bugs her when her mom shops at F21, and so therefore, I should stop shopping at teen places also. Is she right?  While I muse over that friendly comment from A, here are some other photos from Spring Fest, along with a cute one of my co-worker Nicole (english teacher) and her daughter Kira.  Student faces are blurred out, so they look a little weird.

quick friday

Today pulled a fast one.  Assembly days tend to make everything go much faster.  Classes are slightly shorter, the school day is broken up with a super awesome cultural show right before lunch time, and the kids are pumped for the weekend.  Today was the Polynesian Club’s chance to perform.  We saw hula dances and the boys did a haka. I just watched and clapped.  =)
